THE FIRST STATE MODEL RAILROAD
CLUB, INC. NEWSLETTER
SEPTEMBER 2009
NEXT MEETING:
The next meeting of The First State Model Railroad Club, Inc. will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at 7:
30 P.M. at the Jarrell Station at 1282 MeKee Road (the old REA/Magnum Building) in Dover, DE. From Route 1
or Route 13, go west on Scarborough Road about two miles and the building is on the right. From Dover, off
Route 8, take Salisbury Road north which turns into McKee Road and the building is on the left next to Kenton
Child Care Center. Come early and check out the progress and run some trains. If lost, call 302-222-7552.
PRESIDENTIAL REMARKS:
Last month’s meeting was one of the shortest in quite a while. It was only 45 minutes and then a lot of train
running was accomplished.
The trip to English’s was discussed and everyone who attended expressed a favorable good time. We want to set
up a yearly event for this excursion. I think that is a great idea but we should consider making it a two-day event
and perhaps taking in a few more sites.
The White Elephant Table is coming along fine with lots of items being swapped or sold.
Copies of the By-Laws were passed out to those that missed them previously. If you want a copy, just ask. I
probably have a copy with your name on it.
The Web site is coming along very well. Ed Mace is in charge of the project and doing fine. He is looking for
photos of Club interests. Contact him and look up the site at www.fsmrrc.org.
Les Souder has shirts and is passing them out. Get yours at Thursday’s session or at Tuesday’s meeting. Be sure to
pay Richard Stockslager for them because Les will be asking, so he can mark your name off. The shirts are blue
with yellow lettering of Club logo or yellow with blue Club logo. They are $25.00 each and another order can be
placed if enough members are interested.
The jackets were mentioned because someone asked how to clean them. Les said it is best to wash in cold water
and partially dry in the dryer and then finish drying by hanging.
As for shows, Dick Lush and Bill Benzin went to the Oaks Greenburg Show in PA. on August 15, 2009. They spent
about two hours there, bought a few things and then came home. Ask them about the show. It was not as big as it
was when we were there, according to them.
There was the Harrington Heritage Day Toy and Train Show on August 29, 2009 in Harrington, DE. Jim Valle
went and said it wasn’t as big as he thought it would be, but he still managed to pick up a couple of good deals.
Ask him about his buys at the Thursday or Tuesday meetings.
The Boy Scout Merit Badge Project is still on for November 14, 2009. So far two scouts from Florida are signed
up. We still need simple train car kits. Get up with Fred Patrick at F & N Hobbies at 302-653-7753 or 302-598-
8769. Tell him what they are for and he will give you a good deal.
The Club Picnic was discussed at the meeting but nothing concrete was decided. It was mentioned to have it on
September 19 or 20 or a Saturday or Sunday in October. It was also discussed whether to have it at someone’s
home or have it at Jarrell Station. Show up at the next meeting to express your interests or desires.
It was mentioned to have an event with The Wilmington and Western Railroad. The desire was to have a dinner
train. I said I would check on dates and I hope to have more information by the next meeting.
We also discussed the Springfield, MA. trip in January. The exact dates are January 29, 30 and 31, 2010. It will
be at the Eastern States Exposition, 1305 Memorial Avenue in West Springfield, MA. This is a husband and wife
trip. The show will be in four buildings and have 35 layouts of G, O, S, HO, N and Z scale. More will be discussed
at the upcoming meeting.
There was also mention as to whether the Club was going to have the layout on the yearly open house. I think it is
a go, but we will discuss at the meeting the time and dates.
See you at the meeting on September 8, 2009. Jim Thompson, President
