| THE FIRST STATE MODEL RAILROAD CLUB, INC. NEWSLETTER MARCH 2009 NEXT MEETING: The next meeting of The First State Model Railroad Club, Inc. will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 7:30 P.M. at 1282 McKee Road (the old REA/Magnum Building) in Dover, DE. From Route 1 or Route 13, go west on Scarborough Road about two miles and the building is on the right. From Dover, off Route 8, take Saulsbury Road north which turns into McKee Road and the building is on the left next to Kenton Child Care Center. Come early and check out the progress. If lost, call 302-222-7552. PRESIDENTIAL REMARKS: Last month’s meeting at David and Carol McWethy’s was very informative with a quiz given by David. An 8 x 10 photo was presented to Ed Kline for his meeting in January 2009. Many, many thanks to Ed and Maddie for hosting the January meeting. And many thanks to David and Carol for their hospitality for the February meeting. Our Springfield trip was discussed with all programs being accomplished. Trip reimbursements were discussed and everyone will be paid the monies they are due. Not only did we go to Springfield in January but also we turned around the next weekend and went to Timonium for another train show. Four to six members went on Saturday and another ten of us went on Sunday. It looks like model railroading is alive and well. I don’t know how many of you saw the GP7 in Dover across from the Police Station, but it was painted black/green with Pennsylvania painted down the side. Tons of pictures are surfacing and I have about 24 of my own taken. If you would like to see them, just call. Richard Stockslager has gone far and beyond any expectations building another set of curves with the help of the Thursday night crew. He has also put together the corner angle modules to complete the “ U” inside section for the building. Many thanks to all the Thursday people. Jim Valle reported a set-up at Oaks, PA in August 2009, which he will be working on. If you know of any train shows which need a layout, please contact him. Speaking of the layout, the layout will be set up by the next meeting in the building, complete with the “U” shaped design. Be sure to be there to check it out and you are more than welcome on Thursday nights to join in the projects. The Club is starting the new dues in March. Do not pay anything until you call Richard Stockslager to see how much is due. You may have a credit. The new dues are $60.00 a year or $5.00 a month, so it can be prorated for the year for new members. If you have a problem with the new dues, be sure to call Richard or Joyce at 302-697-7291 (day) or 302-697-3614 (evening). Speaking of dues, it was mentioned to one of our members, that I (the President) do not pay my dues. To put this to rest, I have paid my dues, full membership, since the starting of the Club in July of 1985. Even when I moved to Florida for two years, I paid my full dues. The total comes to $600.00 I have paid in dues. There are numerous original members who have always paid and a few old original members who haven’t. My phone is always open at 302-697-6769 or cell at 302-222-7552. Next issue, it was brought up by several members that the building and/or Club does not have liability insurance. I am sure Dr. Jarrell has insurance on the building, but to be safe, I called Richard and he informed me it would cost $150.00 for a one million dollar liability policy. I told him that day to do it. We also voted on it at the meeting. I will say it again, if you have a problem, just call me or get me aside one on one. But it is much better to ask a question directly and get the answer than to spread rumors. The next problem is someone has a problem because he does not have a copy of our by-laws. If anyone wants a copy just contact any officer and I am sure they will get you one. By the way, they are going to be changed, since the Club voted to change the dues structure. I will be sure to pass out the new revised copy at our meeting, or send a self addressed stamped envelop to 111 Broad Street, Wyoming, DE. 19934 C/O The First State Model Railroad Club. The building is coming along fine with a lot of people putting in a lot of time for clean up and renovation projects. Thanks to all and keep up the good work. Mitchell’s in Wilmington has gone out of business but Planes and Hobbies on Route 202 across from the Charcoal Pit is being run by Doug from Mitchell’s. Contact Bill Benzin at 302-734-9005 for more information. Everyone should try to get hold of a copy of Classic Trains Spring 2009. It was noted by Bill Benzin that Jim Valle has written an article in it. Congratulations to Jim Valle for a great article in print.
